Identify Your Skin Type!

Identifying your skin type is the first and probably the most important step in acing your skincare and makeup. Taking the effort to understand your skin’s requirements will help you select the right products and treatments to keep it healthy at all times and bring out your best tone and complexion.

While every person’s skin is unique, there are some broad characteristics that can help you narrow down on your requirements for your skin.

There are broadly four types of skin –

  1. Dry
  2. Oily
  3. Normal
  4. Combination

Identify your skin type by these two easy methods –

  1. Tissue Method

Cleanse your face thoroughly with any mild cleanser. Do not apply any product on your face for an hour. After an hour, dab a clean dry tissue paper on different parts of your face and observe the results.
If the tissue gets stained with oils from most of the parts of your face, you are likely to have an oily skin type.
If the tissue does not get stained with oils from any part of your face, i.e. it is still dry, you are likely to have a dry/normal skin type.
If the tissue gets stained with oils from your nose and/or forehead and not from the rest of your face, you are likely to have a combination skin type.

  1. Mirror Method

Cleanse your face thoroughly with any mild cleanser. Do not apply any product on your face for an hour. After an hour, look at your face in the mirror.
If you notice red/white flaky patches on your skin, you are most likely to have a dry/sensitive skin type.
If you notice a shine all over your face, you are most likely to have an oily skin type.
If you notice a shine on your forehead and/or nose only, you are most likely to have a combination skin type.
If you notice none of the above, you are most likely to have a normal skin type.
